Ryukyu Islands (Liuqiu Islands)

Japan’s recent actions have been at the forefront of anti-China efforts, including the G7’s joint statement condemning China.

The Chinese Communist Party has begun nationalizing the “return of Ryukyu” as a state policy! Beijing is taking an offensive stance against Japan, as the Chinese ambassador to Japan, Wu Jianghao held a closed-door meeting with the vice governor of Okinawa, and Governor Danny Tamaki is preparing to visit China to establish a “foreign ministry”! The People’s Liberation Army’s H-6J and H-6N bombers “drew a boundary” by flying over the Miyako Strait! Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang has made remarks on the matter!

The Ryukyu Islands are currently divided between Kagoshima Prefecture and Okinawa Prefecture in Japan. The northern Amami Islands are part of Kagoshima Prefecture, while the rest of the islands are under the jurisdiction of Okinawa Prefecture. The People’s Republic of China believes that the Ryukyu Islands do not belong to Japan, as they were privately handed over to Japan by the United States, which contradicts the Cairo Declaration and Potsdam Declaration, and thus is illegal and invalid. In the past, the Ryukyu Islands were home to independent states such as the Ryukyu Kingdon.

Why this incidence happened?Because of Taiwan!

Early History of the Ryukyu Islands:
-The exact time when people first inhabited the Ryukyu Islands remains a mystery, but it is believed that they may have migrated to the islands during the last ice age. In the early 7th century, the “Liuqiu Kingdom” was mentioned in the Book of Sui, but it cannot be confirmed if this “Liuqiu Kingdom” referred to the Ryukyu Islands.

-During the 12th century, three countries emerged on the main island of Okinawa: Nanzan, Chuzan, and Hokuzan, located in the south, middle, and north, respectively. This period was known as the “Sanzan Period,” and Chuzan was the most powerful, while Hokuzan was the weakest.

-In 1429, the Ryukyu Islands were unified under the reign of King Shō Hashi, establishing the First Shō Dynasty. During the Ming Dynasty, Chinese officials recognized King Shō Hashi as the ruler of the Ryukyu Islands, and gave him the surname “Shō.” However, the First Shō Dynasty was overthrown in 1469, and the Second Shō Dynasty was established in 1472.

-In 1609, the Satsuma Domain of Japan invaded the Ryukyu Islands and took control.

-In 1872, Japan declared the Ryukyu Kingdon to be an “internal domain” of Japan,

-and in 1879, the Kingdom was abolished, and the Ryukyu Islands were placed under the administration of Okinawa Prefecture.

-After World War II, the Ryukyu Islands were placed under U.S. control, and in 1972, they were returned to Japan, including the disputed Senkaku/Diaoyu Islands.
