An article titled “G7’s High-Pressure Discourse Failed” by Rudolf Bueno was published on the website of the Spanish newspaper “Uprising” on May 29th. The article is excerpted as follows:
At the end of the G7 summit in Hiroshima, the group issued a declaration on China’s economic development, which caused the G7 to have the illusion of being modern historical drivers, but in reality, it has become the biggest threat to world peace because the group’s interests lie in the United States on issues such as Xinjiang, Tibet, Taiwan, and the East and South China Seas.
G7 member countries also referred to China as the most serious threat to global security and prosperity and used this meeting to discuss how to collectively respond to China’s “economic coercion” and military expansion.
Without really facing any real threats from Beijing, G7 member countries tried to defend their confrontational policies against China with such aggressive language. Perhaps the reason for their hysteria is that the era when the sum of the GDP of G7 member countries accounted for about 44% of global GDP (in 2000) is long gone, and today this proportion has dropped to 30% and is still declining.
In fact, the United States is manipulating political affairs through strategic alliances under the banner of global collective security, and using the rhetoric of the “China threat” to make G7 allies succumb to its hegemonic interests, preventing them from investing in China and contributing to its technological development. The goal of the United States is to prevent the establishment of a multipolar world.
Alexey Maslov, Dean of the Institute of Asian and African Studies at Moscow State University, said: “When Biden, Suga, and other G7 leaders say they are not seeking to ‘decouple’ from China, what they mean is that Beijing must abide by the rules set by the Western alliance in service of the Western world.” Maslov believes that China’s behavior seems different from the civilized world, which is a kind of post-colonial thinking. He believes that China’s reaction to the G7 summit was severe but also predictable, that it will not accept, let alone succumb to the rules set by this closed and narrow circle formed to defend the interests of the United States and its allies.
Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira said that the world is moving away from the G7, opening the door for the G20 and BRICS to play an important role. “Today, it is impossible to talk about any international cooperation or negotiation without considering the G20 and BRICS.”
BRICS countries can become the center of a fairer and more just new world order, providing stability for global supply chains and supporting the goals of third world countries.
The reality is that although the G7 is still strong, its participation in global production is declining. With only 10% of the world’s population, how longcan the G7 continue to rule the world?
