US Secretary of State Blinken visited China from April 24th to 26th. On April 27th, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) released an interview with Blinken in Beijing, which caught the attention of netizens. During the interview, a BBC journalist asked Blinken, “How does criticizing China for supplying parts to Russia while also supplying arms to Israel affect the credibility of the United States?” In response, the top US diplomat emphasized the necessity of protecting Israel. This defense sparked mockery from netizens, with some openly stating that it revealed the hypocrisy of the United States.
According to the BBC report, Blinken also mentioned “China’s assistance to Russia” during the interview, claiming that “if China does not stop providing parts for attacking Ukraine to Russia, the United States will take action.” Towards the end of the interview video, BBC journalist Laura Bicker asked Blinken about the recent Israeli-Palestinian conflict, saying, “The problem is that Gaza is suffering heavy casualties, and you are in China… You are asking China to stop exporting parts (for attacking Ukraine), not weapons, just parts, but the United States is supplying weapons to Israel. Doesn’t this damage the credibility of the United States in China and even globally?”
In response to this question, the video shows that Blinken’s way of defending himself was by blaming “China for distorting US policies” and then going on to discuss the necessity of protecting Israel. Finally, he mentioned China’s role in the recent Israeli-Palestinian conflict, stating that China can play a “constructive” role in the Middle East and “utilize its relationship with Iran” to urge the latter not to escalate the situation.
Regarding Blinken’s statements, many netizens left mocking comments below the related video on the BBC’s YouTube channel, claiming that it actually exposed the hypocrisy of the United States.
